Dedicated to uplifting, human-centric experiences for drivers and passengers, Mazda sought to elevate its brand perception and position itself as a premium offering through chef-led digital content and immersive events.
To connect with Food & Wine’s discerning audience and luxury consumers, who recognize that a good meal is about so much more than what’s on the plate, DDM Studios and Mazda formulated a holistic homage to omotenashi — a Japanese custom in which a host creates an atmosphere of anticipation, selflessness, and sincerity for guests — at the 2024 Healdsburg Wine & Food Experience.
Making a (refined) splash in Healdsburg meant partnering with a renowned and visionary chef. DDM Studios enlisted Chef Diego Oka, the Peruvian-Japanese Executive Chef of La Mar in Miami, Florida, to bring the spirit of omotenashi to the Mazda-crafted, five-course Artistry in Japanese Culinary Mastery Dinner. On the ground in Healdsburg, DDM Studios captured original video and photography for a digital premium article recap, which included an interactive how-to guide for Food & Wine readers looking to infuse their own hosting with omotenashi.
A second digital premium article housed two DDM-Studios-produced videos with influencer talent, further highlighting Mazda’s passion for synthesizing form and function. Featuring Philadelphia’s Chef Jesse Ito, Sushi Chef and owner of Royal Sushi & Izakaya, and Chef Niki Nakayama, owner of the two-Michelin-starred n/naka in Los Angeles, each 60-second hero video honed in on one chef’s emphasis on presence and presentation, as well as the elevated experience of driving the 2025 Mazda CX-70. Meanwhile, 15-second social cutdowns reached Food & Wine’s audience via Instagram and TikTok.
